Virginia L. ‘Ginny’ Hardie

Virginia L. “Ginny” Hardie, 91, Altoona, passed away peacefully on Friday at her residence.

She was born in Rockford, Ill., daughter of the late Arthur and Alma (Godfrey) Peterson. In 1945, she married Donald M. Hardie Sr., and he preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1991.

Surviving are three sons: Donald M. Hardie Jr. of Huntingdon, James A. (Julie) Hardie of Brookfield, Wis., and Keith L. (Peggy) Hardie of Cross Keys; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Cutts of Willmar, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Arthur, Raymond “Bud” and Richard; and a sister, Beatrice.

Virginia was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Altoona. She enjoyed going to movies and having lunch with friends. She was a lifelong gardener, and she loved flowers. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, Pastor Beth A. Pyles officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Virginia’s memory be made to Fairview United Methodist Church, 2214 Fifth St., Altoona, PA 16601.
