Robert G. ‘Bob’ Leidy

Robert G. “Bob” Leidy, 91, Lakemont, went to be with the Lord on Sunday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Lakemont, son of the late Ira S. and Pansy M. (Cochran) Leidy. On

May 29, 1948, he married Mary Ellen Blattenberger.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years; three daughters: Coleen (David) Langguth of Altoona, Eileen (Joseph) McIlvaine of Farmingdale, N.J., and Loreen (Dan) Wogan of Altoona; two sons: R. Grant (Janese) Leidy of Indian Mills, N.J., and Brian D. (Debbee) Leidy of Wellsboro; 16 grandchildren: Taron, Tiara, Kelly, Christopher, Jan, Erin, Olivia, Steffan, Carly, Brian, Mitchell, Janna, Kiersten, Trey, John David and Nicholas; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two nieces: Janice McDowell and Lois Rogers; two nephews: Daniel and Phil McCaulley; and two special friends: Paul and Kathy Vincent.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: C. Ruth McCaulley and Miriam S. McCaulley.

Bob was a 1946 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, and in 1985, he retired as a custodian for Altoona Area School District after 34 years of service. He was also owner and operator of Robert Leidy’s Greenhouse for more than 45 years.

He was a member of Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg, and he was a music conductor for Youth for Christ and Youtherama. He was a member of Bracha Quartet and Grace Gospel Quartet. He was also a music director for Men’s Christian Community Chorus and Grace Brethren churches in Leamersville and Martinburg. Bob was a founder and board member of Lakemont Park Museum Inc. and chairman of the committee that wrote the book on the history of Lakemont Park. In addition, he was a board member of Roller Coaster Restoration Inc. and Central Pa. Bible Conference, as well as an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

In 2014, Bob was interviewed by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette regarding the 1949 Billy Graham revival held in Altoona.

He lived a very full, Christian life and glorified God for not only his life, but also for the treasured mentors that guided him.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home, 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg, Pastor Daren Ritchey officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
