William J. Neff

William J. Neff, 91, a resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William P. and Anna Zauner Neff. On Oct. 25, 1952, he married Gertrude Sanker, and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1989.
Surviving are a son, Edward P. (Barbara A.) Neff of Altoona; three daughters: Sister Mary Kay Neff of Greensburg, Diane Neff (Brad) Reifler of Larchmont, N.Y., and Teresa (Peter) Aldins of Hyde Park, Mass.; eight grandchildren: Stephen (Stacey), Michael (Karena), Joseph (Nicole), Sarah and Brian Neff, Christine (Mike) Lemly, Ellen Reifler and Anna Aldins; five great-grandchildren: Brandon, Sophia, Stella, Abbey and Silas; three sisters: Alma (Leo) Duman of Mesa, Ariz., Sister Mary Neff CSA of Fon du Lac, Wis., and Mary Pressler of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters: Madeline Neff, Gertrude R. Neff, Walburga C. O’Neill and Cleopha Neff.
William was a 1943 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School and a 1950 graduate of Villanova University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having been wounded on Feb. 6, 1945, in the Battle of the Bulge.
He retired as president of Neff Electric after 60 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and he belonged to the Serra Club. He enjoyed photography.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, at St. Mary’s Memorial Hall, 1420 Fourth Ave., Altoona, Monsignor Timothy P. Stein celebrant. Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
