Cpl. Scott H. Coanshock

June 7, 1977 - July 18, 2017

Cpl. Scott H. Coanshock, 40, New Port, lost his battle with cancer and peacefully entered the Kingdom of God on Tuesday surrounded by family and friends.

He was born in Altoona, son of Frank and Kathleen (Carpenter) Coanshock.

Surviving are his parents; a brother, Gregory F. Coanshock and wife, Amanda (Schlueter); an uncle, John C. (Marie) Carpenter; two aunts: Adele Carpenter (James) Lewis and Darlene Coanshock (Joseph) Maccie; numerous cousins and extended family; and the brothers and sisters of the Pennsylvania State Police.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents: Frank and Rose Coanshock and Henry and Genevieve Carpenter.

Scott attended St. Patrick Church and School, Newry, and St. Mary School, Hollidaysburg. He was a 1995 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, Altoona, and a 2001 graduate of Penn State University, University Park, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree. In 2007, he was a member of the 124th Class from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy, where he was awarded the Daniel F. Dunn High Scholastic Award. He served the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania with integrity and honor, attaining the rank of corporal.

He touched everyone’s life with his deep devotion to God, family and country. He was truly a man blessed with a warrior’s heart and a fighting spirit. He will forever be in his family’s hearts, a man of quiet presence, humor and personal ethics. He lived a life that was true to his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017, and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 W. Pine St., Palmyra.
