Norma F. Clapper

April 12, 1939 – June 9, 2017

Norma F. Clapper, 78, Altoona, died Friday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Ashville, daughter of the late Felix “Doc” and Agnes “Goldie” (Gauntner) Dougherty.

Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Ted, whom she married Oct. 19, 1957, in Altoona; two children: Debbie Miller (George) and Ted (Jamie Hammel), both of Altoona; four grandchildren: Heather Barron, Alec Clapper, Wade Clapper and Allan Miller; two great- grandchildren: Chase Musser and Brooke Miller; two brothers: Felix “Doc” (Pat Barroner) of Clarence, N.Y., and Thomas (Betty Barroner) of Elma, N.Y.; three sisters: Ruth Pasquino, Mary Shade and Joan Broadrick, all of Altoona; special nieces: Jane Gray of Columbus, Ohio, and Judy Waters of Altoona; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter; three brothers: Augustine, Joseph and John; and four sisters: Anna Marie Blott, Rose Purdy, Rita Dougherty and Theresa Kennedy.

Norma retired in 2005 as a nurse’s aide from Valley View Nursing Home. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, the Rev. Robert Reese, celebrant. Committal will be at St. Thomas Cemetery, Ashville.
