Barbara Jane Bistline

Barbara Jane Bistline, 85, Hillview Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Altoona, passed away Wednesday after a brief illness.
She was born in Duncansville, daughter of the late David Kenneth Sr. and Justine (Webb) Weaver. On Sept. 27, 1952, she married John Edwin Bistline at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 8, 2007, after having shared 55 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, David Bistline of Altoona; a daughter, Nancy (Bistline) Bickel of Altoona; three grandsons: Jarrett Bickel of Altoona, Dr. John Erik Bistline and wife, Ellen, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Christopher Bistline of McLean, Va.; a great-grandson, Lucian Bickel; a brother, her eldest sibling, David Kenneth Weaver Jr. at Elmcroft of Altoona Senior Living Community, Duncansville; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Weaver; three nephews; three nieces; a former daughter-in-law, Norma Bistline; and a former son-in-law, Dave Bickel.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Paul, Edward and Ernest Weaver; and a sister, Margaret Harn.
Jane was a graduate of Altoona High School and she was a homemaker, volunteering in her children’s activities: Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, PTA and Sunday school. Later, she relished in baby-sitting her grandsons. A member of Simpson-Temple Parish, Altoona, for most of her life, she was also very active in church life at the former St. Paul Lutheran Church, Altoona. She was an avid reader, and she happily shared her large collection of books. She enjoyed arts and crafts, and was well known for her cooking and baking. In addition, she enjoyed attending her grandsons’ activities, particularly their musical endeavors.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or service. Arrangements are by E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
