Alys L. Shaw

April 28, 1938 - April 24, 2017

Alys L. Shaw, 78, McKee, went home to be with the Lord on Monday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Duncansville, daughter of the late Elsworth and Hazel (Brubaker) Helsel. On Sept. 13, 1958, she married Ray L. “Cook” Shaw in Dry Run.

Surviving are her husband of McKee; four daughters: Carol McCulloch and husband, Rick, of Schuylkill Haven, Betty Miles and husband, Paul, of Roaring Spring, Brenda Basal and husband, Dave, of Duncansville, and Cheryl Horton and husband, Danny, of Roaring Spring; two sons: Bryan Shaw and wife, Patty, of Duncansville, and Mark Shaw and wife, Lisa, of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren: Mykal, Erik, Christina, Tyler, Garrett, Katelyn, Kyle, Sarah, Lydia and Spencer; five great-grandchildren: Reaghen, Calianna, Chloe, Seth and Caden; two sisters: Lillie Nofsker of Duncans-ville, and Alma Smith of East Freedom; and a daughter-in-law, Becky Shaw of Roaring Spring.

She was preceded in death by a son, Ray Jr.; a daughter, Linda; and two brothers: Dale and Galen Helsel.

Alys was a 1956 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She was a member of Foot of Ten Baptist Church, Duncansville, where she served as financial secretary for many years. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed collecting things, puzzles, gardening, birds, working in her yard and spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Foot of Ten Baptist Church, Duncansville, Pastor David Huston officiating. Interment will be at Leamersville Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to Salted Springs Youth Ranch, care of Foot of Ten Baptist Church, 1130 Foot of Ten Road, Duncansville, PA 16653.
