Ralph A. Resig, 91, Presbyterian Village, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona, passed away Friday at his residence.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Alphonse J. and Caroline (Wertner) Resig. He married Betty R. Rock, who preceded him in death on Dec. 23, 2012.

Surviving are a son, Robert S. Resig (Deb) of Hanover; two daughters: Karen A. Gonsman (Patrick) of Hollidaysburg, and Diane M. Feathers of Altoona; four grandchildren: Matthew, Michael, Jonathan and Bradley; and three great-grandchildren: Evirleigh, Lili and Emereigh.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: twin Richard and Herman Resig; and two sisters: Gertrude Hooper and Ann Strobaugh.

Ralph was a graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 65th Infantry Division. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. In 1978, he retired as a plumber at Van Zandt VA Medical Center after 28 years of service.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. Previously, he had been a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. In his later years, he joined the 65th Infantry Division Association and was responsible for having State Route 65 designated as the 65th Infantry Division Memorial Highway.

Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Father Ronald V. Osinski, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Ralph’s memory be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 3544 Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
