Christopher R. Zimmerman Sr., 69, Cresson, passed away March 2, 2017.
He was born in Cresson, son of the late Frederick Sr. and Jane (McCaffrey) Zimmerman.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou (Leyo) Zimmerman; a daughter, Jennifer Cradier; two sons: Christopher Jr. and Scott; two granddaughters: Gabriella and Adaleigh; three sisters: Patricia White, Cathy Farabaugh and Terry Teach; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Zimmerman; and three brothers: Fred, Michael and Donald.
Christopher was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 2003. He also served with the U.S. Army and Pennsylvania Army National Guard for a total of 23 years, retiring in 2004.
After retiring from two full careers, Christopher continued to serve his community as a bus driver for Wilkinson’s Transportation. He was also a Little League coach, an avid golfer and a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and he loved spending time outdoors with family and friends.
He was a life-member of American Legion Post 0238 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7377. He was a member of Central Pennsylvania National Guard Veterans Association; Loyal Order of the Moose Gallitzin Lodge 185; Slavish Citizens Club, Lilly; and San Pieto Di Roma Italian Mutual Society, Cresson. He proudly served with Cresson Area Military Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. April 21, 2017, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. April 22, 2017, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson, the Rev. Leo Arnone and Father Paul Robine celebrants. Military graveside rites presented by Cresson Area Military Honor Guard will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cresson American Legion or Sankertown Veterans of Foreign Wars.
