Kenneth J. Kozel

Oct. 21, 1934 – Feb. 18, 2017

Kenneth J. Kozel, 82, Gallitzin, died Saturday at home.

He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late John and Stella (Dzielski) Kozel. He married Leneva “Nini” Mulhern on June 23, 1955.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years; three daughters: Linda (Terry) Lender of Irvona, Karen (Rick) Denkovich of Greencastle and Elaine (Chris) Miller of Mechanicsburg; eight grandchildren: Michele (Neil) Shaner, Michael (Cyndi) Lender, Mark (Renee) Lender, James Lender, Andrea (Ryan) Daly, Alex Denkovich, Olivia Miller and Frederick Miller; four great-grandchildren: Morgan, Landon and Brendan Shaner and Ashlyn Daly; a sister, Helen “Cookie” (Frank) Cooper of St. Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bryan Lender.

Ken was a 1952 graduate of Gallitzin High School. He worked as a meat cutter for Martin’s in Duncansville and retired in 1997. He was a life member and past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus St. Pius X Council, Gallitzin, which will have a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was a Gallitzin Borough Council member for 11 years, a member of Gallitzin Sportsmen’s, PNA, a former Gallitzin Moose and a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church.

He enjoyed spending time his family, bowling, hunting, fly fishing, the Steelers, Pirates, Penn State and Pitt.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal will be in St. Mary Cemetery.

The family suggest donations in Ken’s memory be made to St. Demetrius Church or St. Pius X Knights of Columbus.
