Gordon R. Spessard

May 27, 1935 - Feb. 14, 2017

Gordon R. Spessard, 81, Duncansville, formerly of Hollidaysburg since 1976, passed away Tuesday at The Winds at Mattern Orchard.

He was born in High Point, N.C., son of the late Howard L. and Naomi (Dawson) Spessard. He was married to Barbara M. Spessard, who preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Andrea Spessard of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons: Kurt Spessard of Richmond, Va., and Philip Spessard (Lisa) of Marietta, Ga.; their mother, Helen Ann Spessard; two grandchildren: Sydney and Caroline Spessard; and two step-grandchildren: Laura and Eric Falcone.

Gordon was a graduate of Shepherd College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-58 and remained in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1963. He retired from the Office of Development at Saint Francis College. He had previously been executive director of United Way of Blair County.

He was a member of the Rotary Club of Altoona, where he was a Paul Harris Fellow, and he was an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed Ham radio, sailing, photography, crossword puzzles and dining with family and friends.

A private interment will be held at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held at 2 p.m. April 1, 2017, at The Blairmont Club, 265 Larch St., Hollidaysburg. Family and friends are invited to share their favorite stories and memories of Gordon. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.

The family requests that memorial contributions in Gordon’s memory be made to Rotary Club of Altoona Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 2538, Altoona, PA 16603.
