Gloria J. Tate
May 2, 1949 – Feb. 24, 2017
Gloria Jean Tate, 67, Williamsburg, was called home Friday morning at UPMC Altoona after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Kenneth R. Showalter Sr. and Marian E. (Guerin) Showalter-Walls of Williamsburg. Gloria was previously married to Barry D. Tate.
Surviving are three daughters: Rebel S. Walter (Christopher), Shane M. James (Daniel) and Kendra D. Brubaker (Shawn), all of Williamsburg; 11 grandchildren: Kelsie, Kyler, Trey, Kaydi, Camryn, Lindsey, Alex, Ashley, Justin, Evan and Karsyn; two great-grandchildren: Ryker and Kassidy; two sisters: Wanda Loose of Williamsburg and Colleen “Kelly” Nunamaker of Imler; two brothers: Kenneth Jr. of Williamsburg and Tim of Clearfield; and a close friend, Robert “Spanky” Clapper.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother; and a sister, Diane Hoffman.
Gloria was a 1967 graduate of Williamsburg High School and received a beautician certification from Altoona Beauty School. She retired as a packer from Westvaco, Williamsburg, with more than 25 years of service. She also worked as a teacher’s aide for Blair County Head Start.
Gloria was a longtime, faithful member of Williamsburg United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime supporter and fan of all Blue Pirates sports and also enjoyed spending time at Raystown Lake with her companion, Donald Dolbin. Most of all, she took great pride in her family, especially her grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Williamsburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Williamsburg United Methodist Church, Pastor Heather A. Wurst officiating.
