Charles ‘Pat’ Hertzog

Charles “Pat” Hertzog, 81, a resident of Haida Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hastings, formerly of Dysart, died Saturday at Haida.
He was born in R.D. Dysart, son of the late Regis E. and Rose Marie (Judd) Hertzog. He married Gayle Smith on Feb. 27, 1957, in Frederick County, Va.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 60 years; a son, Luke (Anita Long) of R.D. Dysart; three grandchildren: Patrick John, Jason (Nicole Secriskey) and Brandy Lee Eckenrod (Kevin); three great-grandchildren: Natasha, Conner and Joelle; Little Pat’s fiancee, Cindy Weakland, and his ex-wife, Eileen Dumm; three siblings: James (Joanne Fleck) of Dysart, Judy Elich of R.D. Chesnee, S.C., and Ariadyne Herbert (David) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick, on Dec. 11, 2016.
Pat worked at Greenwich Collier, Cherry Tree, for 33 years and retired in 1986. He was a former member of the Bakerton Rod and Gun Club and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Frugality.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and riding his horse.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, and from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Feb. 23, 2017, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, the Rev. Jude Brady, OSB, officiating. Committal will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, Dysart.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Heart Association in Pat’s memory.
