Robert Leonard ‘Bob’ Thomas

Feb. 2, 1935 - Jan. 17, 2017

Robert Leonard “Bob” Thomas, 81, Coatesville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at Freedom Village, Coatesville. To anyone who knew him, he was best known by his self-named “The King.”

He was born in Cambria County, son of the late John Leonard and Maude (Lloyd) Thomas.

Bob was the pillar of the family to his wife of 59 years, Valerie; four children: Craig (Jean) Thomas of New Palestine, Ind., Laurie (Wade) Runge of Huntley, Ill., Keith (Diane) Thomas of Avondale and Scott (Rachel) Thomas of Hershey; and eight grandchildren: Matthew (Rachel), Jessica (Jason), Jeffrey, Kevin, Hunter, Emma, Analise and Alec, all of whom Bob was very proud.

He was preceded in death by three siblings: Betty, Woods and Lloyd.

Bob graduated from Ebensburg High School in 1953, then received his BS in agricultural engineering from Penn State in 1958, and went on to obtain his MS degree from Rutgers University. While at Penn State, he met Valerie Elva Yeckley, and they were married in 1957 in Clearfield.

Bob enjoyed a long and distinguished career in engineering and sales for Fafnir Bearing Co. and its subsequent parent companies in Connecticut and Illinois. Throughout his life, Bob enjoyed golf, bass fishing, duck hunting, lawn and garden activities and his beverage of choice, Jack Daniel’s (on the rocks only; no mixer!). He loved family events that included all of his children and grandkids. He will be remembered by many for his infectious smile, brilliant, mischievous blue eyes and good natured, humorous way of giving folks around him a hard time.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon, Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville. A graveside service will immediately follow at Carson Valley Cemetery, Duncansville.
