John William Fiore

July 10, 1931 – Nov. 29, 2016

Dr. John W. Fiore, 85, Jacksonville, Fla., went to heaven on Tuesday after a brave battle with cancer.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Margie; three sons: Michael and wife, Isabel, Richard and Timothy; a sister, Marguerite John; a brother, Joseph Fiore; and three grandchildren: Alexander, Logan and Daniela.

He was born in Altoona, son of Sicilian immigrants Fortunato Fiore and Polina Bonerigo. After graduating high school and taking prerequisite college courses at Purdue, he matriculated at Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indianapolis, Ind., in 1949. During the Korean conflict, Dr. Fiore took a break from his studies to join the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as a field artillery surveyor with the 2nd Marine Division from 1950-52, attaining the rank of sergeant. After his enlistment, he resumed his chiropractic training, graduating in 1954. A year later, Dr. Fiore married Marjorie Lee “Margie” Urbain of Indianapolis and the two of them moved to Jacksonville, where he opened his first chiropractic office. His brother, Dr. Joseph Fiore, soon joined him in the practice and, in 1963, opened a state-of-the-art chiropractic clinic. In the mid-1980s, two of Dr. Fiore’s sons, Drs. Michael and Timothy Fiore, joined the practice for five years before moving to their own offices in the Southside and Orange Park areas, respectively. Dr. Fiore also founded an orthopedic supply company featuring his own 1968 invention: The Original Back-Huggar lumbar support cushion. In 2010, Dr. Fiore was honored by the Florida Chiropractic Association with the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of the chiropractic profession.

Dr. John and Margie were fortunate to travel extensively, much of the time with their dear friends, Dr. Bill and Norma Phillips. He was a member of CrossRoad Church UMC.
