John D. Fornwalt
July 18, 1943 - Oct. 22, 2016
John D. Fornwalt, 73, passed away Saturday at Cornerstone Hospice, The Villages, Fla.
He was born in East Freedom, son of the late J. Dean and M. Pearl (Black) Fornwalt. On Sept. 15, 1962, he married Cheryl L. Stiffler.
Surviving are his wife; two children: Steven J. (Susan) of Altoona and Laura L. of Ebensburg; and a sister, E. Kay Bowser of Roaring Spring.
John was a 1961 graduate of Central High School, Martinsburg. For more than 20 years, he worked as a pressman for the Altoona Mirror, and he retired as a printer from Altoona Hospital in 2008.
He was a member of the former East Freedom United Methodist Church, where he held many offices and devoted many hours in heading the Loaves and Fishes feeding program, from 1984-94.
In his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed spending time with their many friends in Fruitland Park, Fla. A favorite was pie night at Perkins. In Florida, John discovered a cousin whom he had never met, Bonnie Blevins, and her husband, Fredie. Together, they enjoyed many Florida adventures.
He also enjoyed cooking, camping, square dancing, NASCAR and quality time with family and friends. His kind heart and sense of humor will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers or a funeral service, John’s wishes were that everyone pass along an act of kindness.
