Verna R. Kulp

Verna R. Kulp, 86, Altoona, formerly of Columbia, passed away Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, in Altoona, where she had resided for the past six years. She was the wife of the late Charles D. Ferree Sr., who preceded her in death in 1977.

She was born in Columbia, daughter of the late Lester D. and Laura Donley Dietz.

Surviving are two children: Charles D. Ferree Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Middletown and Jane Yingling and husband, C. Dennis, with whom she resided; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jan G. Ferree; and a sister Elizabeth “Betty” Barr.

Verna worked as a waitress and hostess for many years at Mr. Steak Restaurant, Lancaster, and retired from Dempsey’s Restaurant in 1991. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 2435 and American Legion Post 185, and she was a member of the Women of the Moose 724, Columbia.

Friends will be received from 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016, at Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home Inc., 519 Walnut St., Columbia, with the Rev. Tom Grubbs officiating. An interment service will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
