Verna A. Folk
Verna A. Folk, 99, Amber Terrace at Altoona Center for Nursing Care, went to be with the Lord Wednesday.
She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late Philip C. and Effie M. (Thomas) Harpster. She married the Rev. George R. Folk on April 3, 1940, in Juniata, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1979.
Surviving are a brother-in-law, sister-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Verna was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three brothers: Norman C. Harpster, George C. Harpster and Paul C. Harpster; and seven sisters: Alma Harpster, Stella Lear, Pauline Harpster, Olive Harpster, Violet Laird, Helen Bouch and Betty Nolen.
Verna was a homemaker. She attended Altoona Bible Church, and she loved studying the Bible and looked forward to going to heaven.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 22, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, David Greenwood, pastor of Liberty Bible Church, officiating. Interment will be at Bedford County Memorial Park.
