The Rev. F. Louis Barth

The Rev. F. Louis Barth, 89, Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Florence, S.C., son of the late William Y. and Ora Belle (Sanders) Barth.

Surviving are his wife, Joan (Kough), with whom he recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on Aug. 2, 2014; three sons and their spouses: Robert (Beth) of Hagerstown, Md., Steven (Lori) of Lewisburg and Brian (Carrie) of Jacksonville, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five siblings.

Louis graduated from Florence High School in 1942, attended American University in Washington, D.C., and returned to his native state to attend Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C., graduating in 1947. After graduation from Wofford, he attended Wesley Seminary in Westminster, Md., graduating in 1951 with a sacred theology degree.

From 1947-93, the Rev. Barth served the following pastorates in the Central Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church: Three Springs; Hicks Memorial, Duncansville; Mill Hall; Catawissa Avenue, Sunbury; Everett; St. Paul’s, Red Lion; and Lewistown. He also served as the superintendent of the New Cumberland District.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at Malpezzi Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A celebration of life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 135 W. Simpson St., Mechanicsburg. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Cherry Grove Cemetery, Three Springs.
