Nellie Lou Esworthy

Nellie Lou Esworthy, 75, Altoona, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Coupon, daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Kutyba) Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, on Jan. 6, 2012; and brothers: Francis and Walter.

She is survived by her children: Kenneth Jr. of Altoona, Steven (Dixie) of Parker, Charlotte Esworthy of Hollidaysburg, Camille Esworthy (Andrew Ola) of Windber, Cynthia Hoover of Altoona and Richard (Jennifer) of Altoona; 11 grandchildren: Carter, Daniel, Zane, Taia, Blaze, Matthew, Alex and Elliott Esworthy, Nicholas, Angelica and Abigail Hoover; and siblings: Rose (David) Skipper of Coupon, Mary (Henry) Weatherwalk of Altoona and George Phillips of Williamsport.

Nellie graduated from Altoona Catholic High School as Solitarian of the Class of 1958.

She worked as a caregiver.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family, bingo, gambling and puzzles and the companionship of her dog, Baby.

Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, the Rev. Albert Ledoux celebrant. Committal will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Coupon.
