Clyde W. Laird

Clyde W. Laird, 89, Bellwood, died Thursday evening at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Ralph E. and Amber R. (Nearhoof) Laird. He married Norma J. Peterman on April 7, 1950.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters: Connie J. (William) Miller of Marietta, Ga., Cathie J. (Kenneth) McClellan and Karen S. (Thomas) Burr, both of Bellwood; six grandchildren: Kenneth (Courtney) McClellan Jr. of Bellwood, Bryan S. McClellan of Hollidaysburg, Tyler McClellan of Altoona, Devin T. Burr and Lynnea R. Burr, both of Bellwood, and Corey (Leslie) Miller of Acworth, Ga.; four great- grandchildren: Kasey and Kaden McClellan, Finley Jane McClellan and Lily Anne Miller; and nieces and nephew: Gaylee Davinsizer, Jody Bakale and Drew Laird.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean R.

Clyde was a 1943 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He attended Pennsylvania State University and was a 1949 graduate of Altoona School of Commerce with an associate degree in higher accounting and business administration. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46 on board the USS Av11 and at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Pearl Harbor. He retired as secretary/treasurer of Peterman’s Garage Inc., Greenwood, serving from 1952-82.

Clyde was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood, where he served as treasurer for 22 years. He was a member of Delta Nu Omega business fraternity.

Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. service of Christian burial, with military honors, Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood, with the Rev. T. Talbot-Moses officiating. Inurnment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made in Clyde’s memory to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bellwood. Arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.
