Mary Estella Brown

Mary Estella Brown, 95, Martinsburg, died Friday evening at The Village at Morrisons Cove.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late John and Belle (Elias) Thompson. She married J. Donald Brown on April 19, 1947, and he died July 17, 1996.

Surviving are two sons: John E. Brown and wife, Cathy, in Ohio and Thomas Brown and wife, Linda, of Roaring Spring; a stepson, Jim Brown and wife, Merle, in Michigan; three grandchildren: Lori Motsavage and husband, Kevin, of Collegeville and James Brown and fiancee, Angelina, and Michael Brown and wife, Emily, all in Ohio; two great-grandchildren: Kira Brown and Colin Motsavage; and two step grandchildren: Rebecca Hovarter and Jimmy Brown.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John L. Thompson; a sister, Virginia Brumbaugh, and her infant twin brother.

Mary was a graduate of Roaring Spring High School and had worked as a switchboard operator for both United Telephone Co. and the Martinsburg Shoe Co. She also had served as Recorder of Vital Statistics.

Mary was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Martinsburg, where she had sent sympathy and get well cards for the congregation for many years. She enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Penn State football and following all the local high school sports teams. She was a member of the Martinsburg VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the noon funeral service Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring, Pastor Scott Schul officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mary’s memory may be given to the Morrison Cove Memorial Park.
