Mary Alice Hamman

Mary Alice Hamman, 91, Martinsburg, passed away Saturday morning in Martinsburg.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Harry and Edna Mae (Bush) Claar. She married Robert P. Hamman on May 26, 1939, and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters: Ruby K. Hoover (husband, Gerald R.) of Martinsburg and Betsy R. Crownover (husband, David P.) of Duncansville; two sons: William P. (wife, Mary Jo) of Trinity, Fla., and David E. Eicher (wife, “Sam”) of Corpus Christi, Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a fifth generation great-great grandson, Grady Michael Hoover; two sisters-in-law: Sondra Jane Hamman and Geraldine Eicher; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth S., on May 10, 2014; two sisters; and two brothers.
Mary retired as a supervisor from Altoona Shoe Co. She was a past member of the former Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church, Altoona, and a member of the D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43 Ladies’ Auxiliary.
She loved spending time with her family and also enjoyed traveling.
At the request of the deceased there will be no public viewing. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Scott E. Schul officiating. The family prefers memorial contributions be given to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
