Gloria L. Sipes
Gloria L. Sipes, 87, Altoona, passed away Saturday at her residence with her son, Paul, by her side.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Lester and Dorothy (Miller) Clifford. She married Jack E. Sipes on Feb. 14, 1944, in Maryland. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She is survived by six sons: Jack E. Sipes Jr. (Vicki), Barry Sipes (Peggy), Daniel Sipes (Jan), Thomas Sipes (Donna), Ronald Sipes (Tess Manarino), all of Altoona and Paul Sipes, with whom she resided; four daughters: Judith Werner (James), Gloria Rinehart (Dennis) and Carol Sipes, all of Altoona, and Shirley Tussey (Robert) of Spruce Creek; 16 grandchildren: Eric and Michael Werner, Joseph Ickes Jr., Mark Rinehart, Dennis Rinehart Jr., Jack Sipes III, Brian Sipes, Amie Touchton, Jennifer Belgin, Barry Sipes Jr., Lucas Sipes, Adam Sipes, Lisa and Shaun Sipes and Brian and Brandon Manarino; and 21 great-grandchildren: Barend and Lowen Werner, Jesse and Amanda Ickes, Macy Rinehart, Alana and Leah Rinehart, Ellie, Aubrie and Evvie Sipes, Kelsey, Christian and Hannah Belgin, Ava, Ali, and Raelyn Sipes, Luke Jr. and Colton and Cody Sipes, and Braiden and Aiden Touchton; four nieces: Linda, Becky, Beth and Dottie; and a dear friend, Donna Burkholder.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Jean Ickes, in 1990; three brothers: James D. Clifford, Wayne Clifford and Richard Clifford; and her stepmother, Mary Clifford.
Gloria was a very dedicated wife, housekeeper and loving mother of 11 children. She loved to swim, embroider, bake, paint and garden.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church.
She also loved to watch the autumn leaves and new spring flowers bloom.
Rest in peace, we will all miss her dearly.
Friends will be received from 1 to 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Stevens Memorial Chapel by Pastor Richard Ginter. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in Gloria’s memory.
