Ellen M. Cushion

Ellen M. Cushion, 90, Tyrone, died Sunday at Tyrone Hospital.

She was born in Bellwood, daughter of Claude and Edna (Laird) Lewis. She married Steve Cushion Sr. on Nov. 21, 1953, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years; a daughter, Dolores Hook of Tyrone; four sons: Steve Jr. and wife, Ann, of Tyrone, Joe and wife, Annette, of Vail, James and wife, Robin, of Tyrone and Richard and wife, Lori, of Altoona; nine grandchildren: Christina, Janelle, Todd, Nicholas, Katelynn, Matthew, Robby, Toni and Sean; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Ellen is also survived by three sisters: Janie McClellan of Tipton, Claudia Wilson of Petersburg and Arlene Liddick of Bellwood; and two brothers: Claude of Bald Eagle and Carl of Water Street.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Orlando Taylor, who died while serving in WWII; two sisters: Dorothy Boytim and Martha Dubree; and a great-grandchild, Carter.

Ellen worked at Big Yank during WWII and also at Epworth Manor as a cook. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, and she had served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a devoted mother, wife and grandmother and enjoyed decorating cakes for all occasions.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Father Jozef Kovacik as celebrant. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
