Carmita J. ‘Mitzi’ Bowers

Carmita J. “Mitzi” Bowers, 86, Roaring Spring, died Thursday afternoon at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Stoner) Johnson. She married Roger S. Bowers on June 5, 1948, in Altoona.
Surviving are her husband of 66 years; a son, Dwight of Osterburg; two grandchildren: Brian Bowers and wife, Michele, of Roaring Spring and Natasha Bowers of Roaring Spring; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Pastor Paul Johnson and wife, Michele, of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Mitzi was a 1947 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and retired in 1984 as a supervisor in the laundry department of Nason Hospital. She was a member of Bare Memorial Church of God, Roaring Spring, where she had been a member of the Crusaders Sunday school class. She also belonged to the Roaring Spring Historical Society and had served as chaplain for the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Southern Alleghenies Chapter.
Mitzi enjoyed traveling, having traveled to 47 states and 11 countries, knitting and volunteering for the American Red Cross bloodmobiles.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2014, at Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Bare Memorial Church of God, Pastor Mark Halliday and her brother, Pastor Paul Johnson, officiating. Interment will be made in Holsinger Cemetery, Bakers Summit.
Contributions in Mitzi’s memory may be given to Bare Memorial Church of God.
