Audrey M. (Tampt) Ajay

Audrey M. (Tampt) Ajay, 83, Hollidaysburg, died Thursday at her residence.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Samuel and Helen (Walters) Tampt. She married John Joseph Ajay Jr. in May 1948, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2007, after having shared 59 years of marriage.

Surviving are four children: John Joseph III of Hollidaysburg, Jeannie Marie Kattouf and husband, Theodore, of Gaithersburg, Md., Timothy Patrick and wife, Fran, of Hollidaysburg and Karen Richards and husband, Dan, of Hollidaysburg; eight grandchildren: Amy (Ajay) Husseini and husband, Isaac, John Ajay IV and wife Angela, Michael Kattouf, Lauren (Ajay) Hillard and husband, Jeremy, Stephanie Gardella and husband, Peter, Katie Richards, Joe Richards and wife, Catie, and Jacob Richards; and three great-grandchildren: Grace Husseini, Kaylee Gardella and Henry Richards.

She is also survived by two sisters: Doris Ann Notaro and husband, Louie, and Emma Jean Kuhn, all of Duncansville.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Dean.

Audrey spent her life raising four children while simultaneously helping her husband, John, manage a busy building construction business and numerous apartment rentals. She and John were active members of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, for many years, where she participated in many different groups, including the choir, Ladies Guild and Legion of Mary. She and John gave much of their time and resources to the church.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
