The Rev. J. Clark George

The Rev. J. Clark George, 83, a resident of Dmitri Manor, Hollidaysburg, died Tuesday at the Manor.

He was born in Newry, son of the late Thomas A. and Ann E. (Clark) George.

Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by 10 siblings: Gertrude Sell, Madeline Campbell, Sherman, Patrick, Alma Tomlinson, Jean Riley, twins Martha and Mary Segrist, Ruth and Ronald.

Father Clark earned a B.A. at St. Vincent College, Latrobe, and entered St. Vincent Seminary. He was ordained a Catholic priest at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, by Bishop Richard T. Guilfoyle on May 26, 1956. He worked as an instructor at Johnstown Catholic High School from 1956-57, a chaplain at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown, from 1959-62, and assistant principal at Bishop McCort Catholic High School, Johnstown, from 1962-63 and became principal from 1963-67. He served as pastor for SS. Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, from 1967-84 and pastor for St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, from 1984 until he retired in 1996.

A private family viewing will be held at the convenience of the family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, Bishop Mark L. Bartchak as celebrant. Committal will be at St. Monica Cemetery, Chest Springs.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or St. Monica Catholic Church, Chest Springs, in Father Clark’s memory.
