Robert Harris, 91, Indian Trail, N.C., died Saturday at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center.
He was born in Lilly, son of the late Henry and Rowena (Rowe) Harris. In 1948, he married Dolores Reiter of Sykesville.
Surviving are his wife and three children: Alan of Baltimore, Md., David of Pittsburgh and Lynnette Peterson of Matthews, N.C. He loved deeply his seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
During WWII, Robert served as a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 3508th Army Air Force Base Unit. From September 1944 to February 1945, his crew flew 33 combat missions over Germany in the B-17, “Sugar Joe.” They were part of the 550th Squadron, 385th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force and were stationed at RAF Great Ashfield in Suffolk, England.
Robert served in the Pennsylvania State Police for 28 years and at the National Bank of the Commonwealth for 10 years in Clearfield. He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Indian Trail, N.C., since 1999. He enjoyed various hobbies, including hunting, fishing, woodworking and ham radio (call sign W3ZMR).
Friends will be received from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service today, June 18, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Indian Trail, Pastor Mike Whitson officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C.
