Louis J. Fanelli

Louis J. Fanelli Jr., 62, Hollidaysburg, formerly of Altoona and New Haven, Conn., died Saturday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Louis J. and Anna E. (Howell) Fanelli.

Surviving are two brothers: Stephen A. and wife, Janet, of San Marcos, Calif., and Thomas A. and wife, Lois, of Medford, Ore.; a sister, Paricia A. Geesey and husband, Geoff, of Duncansville; two nieces: Alyssa Cavalier and husband, James, and Kristina Geesey; and two nephews: Tyler and Zachary.

He was a 1970 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School and graduated in 1972 with honors from Culinary Institute of America, then in New Haven, Conn. In 1973, Louie was hired as a chef at the Timothy Dwight College of Yale University, where he continued until his retirement in April 2005.

Louie was a former member of St. Rose of Lima. Cooking was his life and passion. He especially loved Italian pastries and Pepe’s pizza of New Haven. He also was an avid Steelers fan who enjoyed shooting pool and listening to music.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at St. Rose of Lima. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Kitchen.

Louie will be greatly missed by his sister, brothers, friends and family.
