Linda Ann Burns

Linda Ann Burns, 69, Altoona, died Thursday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.
She was born in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Maude R. (Carrig) Yeatts. She was married three times, first to Francis E. “Fritz” Wyland Jr., then to Melvin W. “Whitey” Frye, who preceded her in death on July 25, 1996. She then married Nelson E. Burns of Altoona on Jan. 1, 2000.
Surviving are her husband, Nelson; a son, Brian Wyland (Chris) of Altoona; four daughters: Melissa R. McGuire in Virginia, Kristina C. Praskovich (Doug) of Pittsburgh, Brenda M. Branch (Bill) in Alabama and Georgiana R. Wilt (Dave) of Bellwood; 10 grandchildren: Mallory, Ryan, Olivia, David, Drew, Mya, Levin, Brienna, Eden and Janessa; three sisters: Cynthia Hopper of Altoona, Mary C. Schroeder of Altoona and Monica M. Yeatts of Imler; and a brother, Bernard Yeatts of San Diego, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a son, Francis “Buck” Wyland III.
Linda was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School, and in 1981 she graduated from the Altoona Area Vo-Tech School in instrumentation technology through the women’s outreach program. She retired on disability as a back tender in 2001 from Appleton Papers Inc. with more than 19 years of service. She also was the manager of the American Legion Star Room for four years in the early 1970s.
Linda attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona. She was a member of the Williamsburg American Legion Post 456 Auxiliary and was involved in Girl Scouting for 14 years. She loved her children and grandchildren, the beauty of nature, gardening, camping, boating, fishing, hunting and photography.
At Linda’s request, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 10:30 until the 11:30 a.m. funeral service Saturday, June 14, 2014, in Stevens Memorial Chapel.
