Genevieve R. ‘Genny’ Seymore McKinnis

Genevieve R. “Genny” Seymore McKinnis, 94, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, died Monday at the home after an adventurous life.

She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late John A. and Mary C. (Rhodes) Evans. She was twice married, first to Paul V. Seymore on March 5, 1946, in Hollidaysburg; he died Jan. 6, 1989. She then married Charles McKinnis on June 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, and he died Dec. 25, 1997.

Surviving are three daughters: Paula (Joe) Pelusi of Canton, Ga., Janine (Rick) Beck of Altoona and A. Michelle (Chuck) Lehman of East Freedom; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by three children: Vincent Seymore, Deborah Gority and infant Mary Kay Seymore; and a great-granddaughter, Gillian L. Gority.

Genny was a 1937 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School with highest honors and a graduate of Zeth Business School. She retired with her husband, Paul, as co-owner of Paul’s Place, Altoona, with many years of service. Previously, she had been secretary to Harold Brumbaugh of Brumbaugh Body Co.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, and a past member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Columbian Circle, Sacred Heart Christian Mothers and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed programs at Blair Senior Services. She volunteered at Bon Secours Hospital for many years, and along with Mrs. William H. Plank, she served on the board of directors to establish the early Hollidaysburg Library in the YMCA building in 1943.

Genny enjoyed traveling cross-country, gardening and wintering in Florida for 35 years.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 3:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, Monsignor Stanley B. Carson officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
