Mary I. Bechtel
Mary Irene Bechtel, 85, a resident of Homewood at Martinsburg for the past nine years, formerly of Curryville, passed away early Friday morning at UPMC Altoona.
She was born near Martinsburg, daughter of the late George C. and Elda Mae (Ebersole) Dilling. She married Fred G. Bechtel on Feb. 21, 1953, in Fredericksburg, rural Martinsburg, and he passed away on Oct. 21, 2002.
Surviving are three sons: Jerry and wife, Becky, of rural Martinsburg, and Gary and wife, Claudia, and Dale and wife, Sherry, all of Curryville; seven grandchildren: Jason, Jamie, Jennifer, Robyn, Andrew, Sara and Brenton; five great-grandchildren: Norah and Jakob Bechtel, Tori Lewis and Leanne and Kylee Clark; and three sisters: Ruth Kyler and Margaret “Peg” Roub, both of rural Martinsburg, and Pearl Perrin of rural Everett.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Bradley; four sisters: Mildred and Ella Dilling, Ethel Turman and Roseanna Wareham; and six brothers: Melvin, Elmer, Howard, John, George Jr. “Jim” and Robert.
Mary was a graduate of Morrison Cove High School, Martinsburg. She was a homemaker and a member of Curryville Church of the Brethren.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the chapel at Homewood at Martinsburg, Pastor David R. Stiles and the Rev. Jerry McCuller Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Curryville Church of the Brethren or Homewood at Martinsburg.
