Martha M. Cox

Martha M. Cox, 88, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Gallitzin, died Wednesday at the home.

She was born in Gallitzin, daughter of the late Teofil and Stella (Lukowski) Pawloski.

Surviving are 11 children: Joseph (Karen Bruce) of Salem, Ohio, Patricia (Michael) Hmel of Pinehurst, N.C., Leon “Robert” of Madison, Ohio, Richard (Joann Johnson) of Gallitzin, Deborah (Francis) Chislow of Gallitzin, Jeannie (James) Miller of Ashville, Karen (Allen) Sherry of Gallitzin, Jeffrey (Pauline Mort) of Altoona, Randy (Janice Boland) of Gallitzin, Lesley (Mark) Stahl of Altoona and Marcia (Francis) Laskowski of Coupon; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D., on Dec. 13, 1996; two grandsons: Randal and Jeffrey; a daughter-in-law, Debbie; four brothers: Zygmunt, Charles, Leon and Joseph; and two sisters: Tessie Lane and Lottie Napier. She was the last member of her immediate family.

Martha enjoyed life and raising her family, and she was a member of St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 30, 2014, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 301 Church St., Gallitzin, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, Gallitzin, the Rev. Albert Ledoux as celebrant. Committal will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gallitzin.
