Justin R. Poole
Justin R. Poole, 89, Altoona, formerly of Bellevue, passed away Thursday morning at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born in Connellsville, son of the late Correll J. and Florence (Rowen) Poole. He married Sarah Jane Gratz on June 19, 1948, in Bellevue, and she preceded him in death on April 12, 1982.
Surviving are two sons: David J. of Altoona and Douglas G. and wife, Karen, of Ligonier; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Van Dyke and husband, Cameron, of St. Clairsville, Ohio; two grandsons: Eric Poole and wife, Jennifer, of Trumbull, Conn., and Everett Poole and companion, Sue, of Johnstown; and two sisters: Jane Grey Crossland of Dover, Del., and Joanne Thomas of Somers, Conn.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph S.
Justin retired as an English teacher from the Pittsburgh public schools. He received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and served in the U.S. Army during WWII from February 1943 to February 1946.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2014, Pastor Jason Schwartzman officiating. Interment will be at Allegheny Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association
