Joseph W. Claar
Joseph W. Claar, 72, Cresson, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Anna Marie (O’Dellick) Claar. He married Paulette Borlie on April 25, 1964.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Joseph Jr. of Somerset; five sisters: Dorothy Henry, Arlene Keller, Theresa Nagle and Susan Rodgers, all of Altoona, and Sharon Richards of Tyrone; his mother-in-law, Frances Borlie; and two brothers-in-law: Paul Borlie and William Borlie Jr., both of Cresson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Patty and Carol; and his father-in-law, William Borlie Sr.
Joseph was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He retired in 2004 from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 26 years of service. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish and the NRA and was interested in history and politics.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 2, 2014, at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Church, the Rev. Leo F. Arnone as celebrant. Committal will be in the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Cresson American Legion, Sankertown VFW and other local veteran organizations.
