Catharine E. ‘Katie’ Hawkins

Catharine E. “Katie” Hawkins, 96, Altoona, died Wednesday at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.

She was born on a Good Friday in Hollidaysburg, daughter of C. Roy and Blanche (Isenberg) Keller. She married Frank Carlton Hawkins on May 19, 1967, in Chambersburg, and he died June 18, 1975.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris M. Kephart, on June 2, 2003; and two brothers: Lester I. on Sept. 13, 1987, and John A. “Jiggs” on Oct. 28, 2000.

Katie was a 1935 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She retired in 1967 after more than 22 years of service at the Blair County Courthouse in the Register of Wills and Recorder of Deeds Office. She had been a member of St John’s Reformed Church, Hollidaysburg, for 82 years, having joined the church in 1932. She served as a choir member, organist, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school secretary. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hollidaysburg Chapter, where she was a choir member.

Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m., the Rev. David P. Haydu officiating. Interment will be at Yellowsprings Lutheran Cemetery, Yellow Springs.

At Katie’s request, memorials may be given to St John’s Reformed Church, 904 Maple Ave., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
