Robert W. ‘Rab’ Jasper

Robert W. “Rab” Jasper, 94, a resident of Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, formerly of Coalport, died Tuesday at the home.

He was born in Coalport, son of the late Robert and Jean (Waddell) Jasper.

Surviving are six children: William, Ronald, Gary and Brenda, all of Coalport, Sandra Kruis (Fred) of Glasgow and Sharon of Ginter; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three grandsons: William Jasper Jr., Eric Keith and Fred Kruis; and a sister, Helen Witherow.

Rab was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, where he served as a truck driver. He worked for Gallaher Grocery Store, Coalport, and as a bartender for several area taverns. He was a member of Coalport Presbyterian Church, a life member and past post commander of the Coalport VFW, and a member of the Odd Fellows, Glasgow, and Coalport Moose.

Rab enjoyed shooting pool and fishing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 24, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, April 25, 2014, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Coalport, the Rev. Roland Emond officiating. Committal will be in Beaver Valley Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Coalport VFW.
