Nancy Cloud (Darlington) Lynn
Feb. 14, 1919 April 8, 2014
Nancy Cloud (Darlington) Lynn, 95, of Monroe, Mich., passed away peacefully Tuesday at IHM Motherhouse.
She was born in Altoona, one of three children from the union of the late Edward and Mary (Cloud) Darlington. She married the love of her life, Floyd Ellsworth Lynn, on Dec. 5, 1941, in her parental home, and from this union would come the birth of their five children.
To cherish her memory, Nancy leaves two daughters: Sandy Lynn of Hollidaysburg and Jennifer (Ron) Strohmeyer of Monroe, Mich.; three sons: Allan (fiancee Karen) of Altoona, Joe (Jenny) of Ashland, Ohio, and Steve (Lonna) of Hebron, Ky.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Her passing was preceded by her loving husband.
After high school, Nancy attended college, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Her career spanned 26 years teaching in the Altoona Area School District as a second-grade teacher. She received her spiritual nourishment at the 58th Street United Methodist Church in Altoona. She loved to hear scripture, and the 23rd Psalm was her favorite passage.
As a compassionate and humble woman, Nancy was an encouragement for all whom she loved, always knowing exactly what to say and when. She had a resilient and positive attitude, never having anything negative to say. Others were drawn to her smile and great sense of humor.
Nancy had strong family values. She loved her family and cherished the quality time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren during family get-togethers. She traveled extensively with family as her destination, often resulting in meeting additional family. Her last trip was to Birmingham, Ala., to attend her granddaughter’s wedding.
Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Mich. At the convenience of the family, a memorial service will be held at the 58th Street (now Christ Community) United Methodist Church in Altoona at a later date.
Memorial donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society and IHM Sisters.
