Marjorie B. Wise

Marjorie B. Wise, 85, Hollidaysburg, passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of Harry E. and Viola Belle (Shinafelt) Blake. She married Kenneth M. Wise on April 30, 1945, in Hollidaysburg, and he died May 22, 1997.
Surviving are two sons: Roger D. (Sherry) of Duncansville and David M. (Janet) of Cresson; three daughters: Nancy C. Corbin (Fred B.) of Hollidaysburg, Patricia L. Lynch (Bob) of Sugar Land, Texas, and Barbara E. Hammel (Rod) of Hollidaysburg; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Blake of Hollidaysburg.
Marjorie was the last of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary, in 1956; a brother, Edwin “Bus”; five sisters: Martha, Eleanor, Helen, Emma and Mildred; and her companion of nearly 17 years, her cat, Sam.
Marjorie attended Hollidaysburg High School. She retired as the organist from First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, where she was a member, after 32 years of service. Upon her retirement, she was given the position of honorary organist emeritus.
She was also a member of the Hollidaysburg Alumni Community Chorus, where she sang and accompanied, and the DMA Club, Lydia Group and Bible Trivia at First United Methodist Church. She previously was the organist at First Church of Christ, Altoona, and Ward Avenue Presbyterian Church, Altoona.
Marjorie loved Hollidaysburg and music, particularly pipe organs.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, and 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday, April 19, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, Hollidaysburg, Pastor Dennis Derr officiating. Interment will be in Carson Valley Cemetery.
