Bette ‘Bee-Jay’ Jayne Tome

Bette “Bee-Jay” Jayne Tome, 88, Middletown, entered into eternal rest Friday at the Frey Village Nursing Center.
She was the daughter of the late Richard S. and Sara E. (Hansen) Oberdick.
She was married to the Rev. Richard L. Tome, a Lutheran minister, who preceded her in death. They were the parents of three daughters: Sally Lee Tome, who died June 18, 1990, Debbie Lee McNamara, wife of Robert McNamara of Camp Hill, and Peggy Lee Rocco, wife of Anthony Rocco of Ellwood City, Pa. She also had eight grandchildren: Vito, Benna, Nico, Marta, Lorna, Gino, Carolyn and Kellyn; and two great-grandchildren: Jude and Saul.
She was a graduate of York High School and graduated from West Chester University in 1948 with a degree in elementary education. She taught for three years in the York City School District as a kindergarten teacher and 22 years as a first-grade teacher in the Bedford Area School District at the Bedford Primary Building. She retired in 1982 after 25 years of teaching.
Bee-Jay was a beloved mother, grandmother, wife and faithful friend. Her smile will be greatly missed.
A tribute to her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown, with the Rev. Dr. J. Richard Eckert officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 until the time of services Monday at the church. Burial will be in Shiloh Lutheran Cemetery.
