Robert M. Benn

Robert M. Benn, 87, Wernersville, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Bellwood, son of the late Walter and Essie (Jackson) Benn. He married Dorothy M. Hollen, with whom he had shared 67 years of marriage this past January.

Surviving are his wife; five children: Susan J.B. Berardi and husband, Joseph, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Thomas R. and wife, Kim, of Mohnton, Timothy R. and wife, Coleen, of West Branch, Mich., Joan M. Latshaw and husband, Larry, of Wernersville and Bonnie J. Spotts and husband, David, of Lemont; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four siblings: Verna Detwiler and husband, Earl, of Clearfield, Ronald and wife, Jean, of Bellwood, Pearl Campbell of Lake Elsinore, Calif., and George of Tonawanda, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Ann; and five siblings: Dorothy Detwiler, Charles, Esther, Melvin and Ralph.

Robert was a 1945 graduate of Bellwood High School and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army. During his working years, he worked for the former Pennfield Corp., Ephrata, was a custodian for Cocalico School District and was last employed by Latshaw Bros. Concrete, Denver, Pa. He was a member of Wiest Memorial United Methodist Church in Schoeneck, where he formerly served as the choir director, and a member of the Cloister American Legion Post 429 in Ephrata.

Robert started playing the fiddle at age 3 and was in a group called “Happy Trio.” He also enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting three quarters of the United States.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment will take place in Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
