Pearl A. Detrick
Pearl A. Detrick, 91, Duncansville, died Thursday morning at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Herman F. and Pearl M. (Burns) Schmelzlen. She was married 64 years to Benjamin F. Detrick Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 2006.
Surviving are two children: Donald T. Sr. (Barbara) and Susan K. Fahr (Blaine “BJ”), both of Duncansville; two grandsons: Donald T. Detrick Jr. and James A. Detrick (Cristy); six great-grandchildren: Brooke, Courtney, Caitlyn, Emma, Benjamin K. and Caleb B. Detrick; a sister, Shirley M. Kimmel (John) of Altoona; and her beloved dog, Libby.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry M., Kenneth H. and Robert A. Schmelzlen.
Pearl was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. She had worked at Gorsuch Pharmacy, Duncansville, for seven years and was on the Allegheny Township Election Board, District 1, for 10 years. She was a member of Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the KVB Sunday school class and the Stitchers. She was a past member of St. James Lutheran Church in Altoona.
Pearl liked to read, watch TV and do crossword and word puzzles. She loved her children, grandsons and all her special great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, March 24, 2014, at Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave., Duncansville, the Rev. Jaime G. Olson officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Duncansville Evangelical Lutheran Church.
