Mary Virginia Johns

Mary Virginia Johns, 91, Duncansville, went to be with the Lord Tuesday morning at her residence.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of Isadore and Mary (Burk) Datres. She married Bobby Johns on April 28, 1942, in Louisiana, and he died on May 8, 1973.

Surviving are two sons: Larry (Dorothy) of New Egypt, N.J., and Bobby (Yvonne) of Franklin, N.C.; four daughters: Ann (William) Lehew of Duncansville, Sherry (Lazlo) Suto of Katy, Texas, and Lorene Johns and Alyce Waechtler of Pine Hill, N.J.; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Datres of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Marjorie Datres of Duncansville, with whom she resided.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhelda Rone; a grandson, Kenny Johns; a granddaughter, Christiana Marie Johns; a great-grandson, Vincent Johns; and a son-in-law, Wes Waechtler.

Mary was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired as a waitress from the Calvin House in 2005 at age 83 after 20 years of service. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Duncansville.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at St. Catherine of Siena by Monsignor Robert J. Saly. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
