Blaine Richard Campbell

Blaine Richard Campbell, 85, Hollidaysburg, went to be with his Lord on Thursday after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was the son of the late Clifford and Eva (Yingling) Campbell. On April 29, 1961, at the Duncansville Presbyterian Church, he was united in marriage with Shirley Keagy, with whom he enjoyed almost 53 years of wedded bliss.

Surviving are his wife; five children: Patricia E. Campbell (Michael Azarian) of Arlington, Va., Lesley A. and Blaine Jr., both of Hollidaysburg, Jeffrey A. (Aimee) of Duncansville and Thomas A. (Ashley) of Hollidaysburg; and seven grandchildren: Benjamin, Emily, Johnathan, Sarah, Hannah, Noah and Jonah Campbell.

He was the last of his immediate family and was preceded to Heaven by a brother, Robert; and a sister, Helen Dell.

Blaine was a 1947 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and a 40-year employee of Conrail, from which he retired in October 1992. He was a longtime member of the Reservoir Bible Church, where he served as deacon, usher, treasurer and trustee and enjoyed working on many building and maintenance projects with his good friend and pastor, Edgar Burns.

Blaine was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and softball. He had been a star pitcher for several baseball teams in the Blair Twilight League and was a manager and player for his church softball team for many years. He never strayed far from his birthplace and built a home for his wife and children on his grandparents’ homestead, where he was an avid gardener.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church, Altoona, by Pastor Ronald Anderson. Interment will be at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
