Betty Jane Miller

Betty Jane Miller, 92, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening at Valley View Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles and Amber (Hauk) Wolfe. She married Marshall W. Miller on Nov. 26, 1941, in Winchester, Va. He preceded her in death Jan. 28, 1982.

Surviving are four children: the Rev. Marsha J. Bookhamer and her husband, Larry, of East Waterford, Amber L. Crawford and her husband, Mike, of Altoona, Robert and his wife, Marybeth, of Hollidaysburg and Dean A. and his wife, Gina, of Duncansville; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; and two brothers: James Hauk in Florida and Pete Hauk in Tennessee.

Betty was preceded in death by three brothers; and a sister.

Betty was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School. Along with her husband Marshall, she was the former owner of Miller’s Corner Store.

Betty was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church, Altoona, where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years and a member of the Church Women United. She enjoyed walking, crocheting, embroidery, many church related activities, and cooking for the Greenwood Lions Club.

Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2014, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday March 25, 2014, at Greenwood United Methodist Church, 1501 East Walton Ave., Altoona, the Rev. Duane Coy officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greenwood United Methodist Church, 1501 East Walton Ave., Altoona, PA 16602.

Betty Jane Miller

Betty Jane Miller, 84, Tyrone, died Sunday at Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone.

She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late Fred Andrew and Ada Mae (Burns) Miller.

Surviving are five nieces: Mary K. Freeman of Warren, Ohio, Marjorie Moore of Tyrone, Nancy McCue of Seattle, Wash., Linda Miller of Altoona and Patricia Miller of the Tyrone area; and two nephews: Robert Miller and William Miller.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Martha H. Smith and Mary Katherine Miller; and three brothers: Paul E., Charles B. and Fred A. Jr.

Betty was a 1949 graduate of Tyrone High School. She retired in 1993 as payroll secretary at Tyrone Area School District after 27 years of service and previously worked at McCrory’s and the Wilson Chemical Co. She was a life member of the Blair County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Friends will be received from 1 until the 2 p.m. funeral service Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone. Interment will be at Eastlawn Cemetery.
