Anna Passanita, 92, Dysart, died Thursday.
She was born in Dysart, daughter of the late Salvatore and Josephine (Munson) Passanita.
Surviving are two siblings: Mary Louise Eckenrode and Pat Passanita, both of Dysart; two nieces: Marilyn Passanita and Gerianne Eckenrode, both of Ebensburg; two nephews: Gary Eckenrode of Lewes, Del., and Randy (Anne Salony) Passanita of Ebensburg; several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a godchild, Greg Shingle of Dysart.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James L. “Buster”; and two nephews: Jerry and Denny Eckenrode.
Anna worked at Sylvania, Altoona, for 43 years and retired in 1987. She was a longtime Democratic committeewoman of Cambria County, and she was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, and the Altar and Rosary Society.
Although Anna had no children of her own, she was “Aunt Ann” to three generations. Her deep faith was lived in ways, small and large, of caring for others because her “family” also included a multitude of friends and neighbors. Her possessions, like her heart, were freely given. She had the gift of hospitality, and no one left her home without a token of her affection, from a gift of food to a lightening of spirit from having shared time with her or maybe having danced a polka! Through the tears of their mourning, her family rejoices and gives thanks for the times they shared with Ann.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2013, at Gibbons Funeral Home, Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, 2014, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Ashville, the Rev. Sean Code as celebrant. Committal will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Ashville Volunteer Fire Company in Anna’s memory.
