Betty L. Soyster
Betty L. Soyster, 92, Altoona, died Tuesday at Altoona Center for Nursing Care after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry K. and Pearl (Wertz) Meintel. She married William J. Soyster Sr. on Oct. 27, 1951, and he preceded her in death July 21, 1974.
Surviving are a son, William J. Jr. of Ashville; a daughter, Valeria L. Weidlich (Robert) of Altoona; a granddaughter, Melanie Weidlich; and a sister, Doris Glunt of Altoona.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Constance Soyster and Aldine Evans.
Betty was a 1939 graduate of Altoona High School and served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. She retired from Country Garden Market as a clerk and was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing and dancing and was a member of the Frohsinn Singing Society, Heidelberg Country Club and Bavarian Aid Society.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 6, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Stevens Memorial Chapel by Father D. Timothy Grimme. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
