James R. ‘Jim’ Rentz

James R. “Jim” Rentz, 67, Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Robert J. and Mary A. (Diehl) Rentz. He married Martha J. Wineland on April 8, 1972, in St. Leo Catholic Church, Altoona.

Surviving are his wife, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage; three daughters: Karen Snyder and husband, Randy, of Altoona, and Linda A. Harr and husband, Dewey Jr., and Christine M., all of Hollidaysburg; a son, Robert J. of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren: Kyle, Allen, Leah and Madelyn; a great-grandson, Trenton; a sister, Margery Zimmerman and husband, Ronald, of East Freedom; four brothers: Timothy and wife, Colleen, of Hollidaysburg, Charles of Williamsburg, Frederick and wife, Linda, of Duncansville and Neil and wife, Kathleen, of West Farmington, Ohio; and a sister-in law, Susan.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald F., in April 2008.

Jim was a 1965 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Kirwin during the Vietnam era. He retired from Texas Eastern after 39 years of service as a pipeliner.

Jim was a member of Fort Fetter Post 516, American Legion, and St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg. He enjoyed Saturday family dinners, especially dessert, the family cottage in Huntingdon County, bowling, outdoors, fishing, hunting and playing the Pennsylvania Lottery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a vigil service will be held. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Anthony J. Legarski. Committal will be at New St. Mary Cemetery, Hollidaysburg, with full military honors under the direction of Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
