Irma I. Batrus

June 29, 1912 – Jan. 16, 2014

Irma I. Batrus, 101, Golden Living Center-Hillview, formerly of Bradford, died Thursday, at the center.

Irma was born in Alfred Station, N.Y., daughter of the late Melvin and Carrie (Cornish) Green.

Irma married Paul Batrus on Aug. 14, 1958, in Bradford. He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1993.

Irma is survived by one daughter, Helen Jennings and husband, Paul, of Huntington, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters: Majorie Mahoney and Lois Wolfinger.

Irma was a graduate of Andover High School, New York, and retired as a sales clerk from Gables Department Store. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards and was a member of the St. Mary’s Ladies Society.

Irma was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church.

Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a Trisagion service will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church by Father Joseph Geirege. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Cemetery.
